The Scientific Method
The Scientific Method is the process that scientists use to conduct an expiriment. This method is not a process that needs to be carried out in order, it is flexible and can be altered. It starts with an observation that leads to research and a hypothesis. A hypothesis is a well educated guess for a phenomenon written as an "if, then" statement, such as: "If salt water is introduced to the plant, then the plant will stop growing." Then, the hypothesis is tested in an experiment, or multiple experiments to attempt to decrease the amount of sources of error. The data collected is analyzed and conclusions are drawn from the research. After all of the work has been done, you publish your results for other scientists to analyse and test.
